At least we didn’t come in dead last. I know it is disappointing, but we just need to stay proud of our park and our residents for all of their participation and remember there is always next year! I've already heard people saying what they were going to do different next year and, of course, we as new Activity Directors this year will be much more experienced for the next season and, therefore, better able to guide all of you.
The Encore Banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27th at Fun N Sun. The Social and Dance is scheduled from 1 to 3 PM. The Medals will be distributed from 3 to 4 PM. The dinner will follow at 4 PM.
We have 26 tickets to the event. The tickets were distributed by the rankings from each park so we did not get as many as we would like. We will be distributing them to gold medal winners and their spouse/date, then to silver medal winners and then bronze. Luckily, some husband and wives were both medal winners so that helps give someone else a ticket. The Gold Medal winners can stop in this afternoon to pick up their tickets. Then we will distribute the tickets to the Silver Medal winners and then the Bronze Medal winners. Also, if you can’t attend the banquet please let us know so we use them elsewhere. We will use all of the tickets we were given and we want to make sure that.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
We will be celebrating St. Patrick’s
Day on Sunday, March 17th. The theme will be “Your Lucky Day” and I
have several fun activities and you can take part in all of them or as many as
trip your trigger. Almost all of them include prizes that will make it “Your
Lucky Day”! We will also have entertainment or dancing (as you prefer) with
Carlos Canos. This may be held inside or outside depending on the weather. Carlos
was the entertainer who played and sang at the Trailer Trash Party and we got
lots of good review from you at that party. We will also be joining Country
Sunshine at some point during the afternoon or evening (I have not received the
time from Debbie yet) for their annual Golf Cart Parade.
CALENDAR CHANGE:
The Dummy Rummy
Tournament should be crossed off the calendar for February 28th. It
has been scheduled for March 14th at 7:30 AM.
CANCELLATION:
The All Park Chili Cookoff has been cancelled due to lack of participation from the other parks. If you purchased tickets for the event, stop in the Activity Office beginning this afternoon and we will refund your money.
ACTIVITY OFFICE BUSINESS:
Photo Directory: We will finish the pictures taken by the photographer today. If you were not able to get your pictures taken during one of the photographer sessions don’t worry that you won’t be in the Directory. We can take your picture and add you to the Directory. Rod Graham, who has been taking the pictures for the Directory, has agreed to leave his background screen and Lee will be able to add your information into his system as he has been doing. So, just stop in and see Lee in the office. We will have our camera ready and his backdrop will be set up in the Hall between the restrooms. The cost for adding a picture that Rod didn’t take is $5 so it will cost $20 for taking the picture and your Directory. We hope that all of you will get your picture taken and be in the Directory. It will be a huge help to us as Activity Directors and to all the new people that are coming into the park. We already have taken pictures of several of the new people that are coming in and we are trying to catch all of them as they arrive.
Activity Information Sheets:
I have put a stack of Activity Information Sheets on the table in the back of the Hall. If you are the Coordinator for a game or an event, I need to have this sheet filled out for each activity. It includes information that I presently do not have. Just as a for instance, in many cases I do not know who to call when I have to bump you from your room for a special event. I’d like to be able to let the Coordinator know so they could notify the group. Also, with the new people in the resort, I need to be able to let them know who they should talk to about an activity. The office in the past has been kind of lax in gathering and maintaining this information. We really need to get that remedied. So, please pick up a green activity sheet, fill it out and return it to the office – one activity per sheet. When preparing the calendar for next season, if I don’t have a sheet, the activity will not be scheduled – NO EXCEPTIONS. And if your activity is not scheduled, we may use the time slot for other activities. You might as well get used to this process as I will follow it for as long as I am your Activity Director. This may sound like a harsh policy but it is the only way to make sure that I know what is going on around here.
RGV ACTIVITY DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION MEETING:
On March 1st, the RGV Activities Directors Association’s Annual Activity Directors’ Appreciation Party will be held in our Hall. We are expecting about 175 Activity Directors and their Managers to attend. We will be serving them lunch and having some entertainment. We will, therefore, be closing the Hall from 10 AM to around 2 PM on that day.
I would really appreciate it if I could get some volunteers to help with this event. Please sign up at the back of the Hall so I can get in touch with you and set up a get together to discuss how we are going to take care of this crowd. I’ll need servers, kitchen help and more.
TRIPS:
Mozna Chocolate Factory Tour:
On March 5th the Mozna Chocolate Factory Tour takes place. This trip is full. Please meet in the Hall to arrange ride-sharing at 12:30 PM and leave at 12:45 PM to get there on time. Lee has a map to Mozna so stop in the office if you need one.
Vipers Game:
On March 6th the second Vipers Game bus trip will go out and the trip is closed. As soon as I receive the time that the bus will arrive here and receive the t-shirts for those that are going, I will contact you so you can come to the office to pick up your shirts..
Port of Brownsville:
Then on March 13th there is an Osprey Port of Brownsville Trip which is now full. Marlene will be taking money for this trip from those that signed up after the meeting today. She can take checks made out to Osprey Cruise or cash. She’ll be back at the table by the entry door. Tickets are $35 per person. Please give her a chance to set up after the meeting.
Riverside Cruise:
I am planning a Saturday Riverside Dreamer Cruise. This deal is for a boat tour and dinner price. Seniors are $22 and adults 13-61 are $23 per person. This price includes a meal choice, a soft drink, tax and gratuity. There may be music playing in their Ball Room when you are finished and you can stay and enjoy that before you head home. That is what I am checking on now. We need 25 to get this pricing but we can book up to 40. The boat cruise is at 11 AM, the Meal is at Noon and the entertainment starts at 1 PM. This will be a private ride for just Southern Comfort. If you have family or friends here, you can invite them also. There will be a signup sheet at the back of the Hall as soon as I verify the date.
